FANR inks MoU with Belarusian Ministry for Emergency Situations

​The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Belarus on cooperation, training, and exchange of information in the fields of prevention and response to nuclear and radiological emergencies, radiation safety and regulatory matters.


The MoU was signed on the sideline of the UAE-Belarus Joint Committee by  Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Dmitry Pantus, Minister of State Authority for Military Industry. The committee discussed strengthening bilateral relations and signed a number of agreements in the fields of environmental protection, agriculture, and food safety.


FANR’s signed MoU aims to strengthen cooperation in different aspects in exchange of experience in radiation protection, regulatory activities of nuclear facilities. It also aims to support scientific research and enhance employees’ competencies in nuclear and radiation safety, including environmental monitoring. It will also foster exchange of knowledge in the field of prevention and response to nuclear and radiological emergencies and mitigation of their consequences.


The agreement seeks to benefit from the good practices of environmental protection in Belarus especially in the Polesie State Radioecological Reserve, which is a natural reserve located in the Belarusian Polesie region and  was created to enclose the territory most affected by radioactive fallout from the Chernobyl disaster


The UAE is building four units at Barakah Nuclear Power Plant with the overall completion rate reaching 94%. Belarus is building its first nuclear power plant and planning to have it operating this year.
