As part of its commitment to transparency, FANR launched a number of activities to reach out to the community and its stakeholders to educate about its roles and responsibilities as well as create confidence in regulating the nuclear and radiological sectors in the UAE to ensure protection of the public, workers and the environment.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, in 2020, FANR conducted its outreach programme online targeting the public, government entities and licensees. It organized 18 outreach activities reaching over 2,479 participants. Such activities included the Majalis, federal and local entities. It also held its annual “Meet the Regulator” event to meet with its +3,000 licensees to explain FANR’s services and licensing process to use radioactive material in the UAE.

Meanwhile, it continuously conducted a number of campaigns using traditional and social media to reach out to the local and international community. Mostly importantly was the launch of the Operating License of the first Unit of Barakah Nuclear Power Plant where a press conference was held and awareness media material was produced to educate the public and stakeholders.

FANR places importance on public and stakeholders’ perception of FANR’s regulatory role in the UAE. Following intensive outreach activities, FANR conducted a number of surveys in 2020 to target its public, stakeholders, customers and employees. 71% of the public are confident of FANR’s roles to ensure safety of the community and 88% of them are aware of FANR’s regulatory role. Moreover, 88% of FANR’s partners (government and international organizations) are satisfied about the cooperation. Furthermore, 91% of FANR’s customers are aware about its services. Lastly, 91 % of FANR’s employees are happy about its communications channels and campaigns.
