Apr 10, 201910 April 2019, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) has been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management System.
The certification has been obtained for the scope “the regulation and management of services related to the nuclear sector in the United Arab Emirates including licensing, compliance, monitoring for safety, security, safeguards and radiation protection, and the provision of services related to the radiation protection infrastructure.”
The ISO 9001:2015 certification ensures that an organization demonstrates its effectiveness and ability to improve services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system including processes improvement.
“The ISO 9001:2015 certification for Quality Management System is a demonstration of FANR’s efforts towards excellence and quality, which is necessary to achieve our vision in becoming one of the leading nuclear regulator globally as well as ensuring the protection of the people and the environment,” said Christer Viktorsson, Director-General of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR).
Since its start in 2009, FANR has in place its Integrated Management System to document its work streams by detailing all the processes and procedures, being its core, support, or management processes. The system has been continuously benchmarked and improved against updates of standards from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other nuclear regulators. FANR built its own IMS based on the IAEA safety requirements on Leadership and Management for Safety which is a dedicated management standard for nuclear organizations.
The certification was awarded in a ceremony attended by the UK Ambassador to the UAE H.E. Patrick Moody, FANR’s Chairman H.E. Abdulla Nasser Al Suwaidi and members of the Board of Management of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation and representatives of the British Standards institution .
