FANR, ADAFSA held a virtual table-top exercise during a nuclear emergency

Jun 17, 2020

The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) recently held a virtual tabletop exercise with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) simulating their response within the 300 km in case of a nuclear emergency.

The exercise included various injects to simulate ADAFSA’s response actions as per their assigned roles described in the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant Offsite Plan, such as protecting drinking water, food and crop supplies, protecting animal farms, restricting consumption of some products, collecting samples of local produce and answering public inquiries.

The exercise concluded successfully and ADFSA plans for more drills with FANR in regards to their responsibilities in case of a nuclear emergency.

FANR’s Emergency Operations Centre conducts drills and exercises with national entities and international organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to build capacities to respond to any nuclear or radiological emergency.
