Third Emirati Batch Completes their Developee Programme at FANR and starts their Nuclear Career

​7 August 2019, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: The third batch of Emirati engineers and physicists completed their one-year intensive nuclear regulatory development progamme at the UAE's Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR). The programme graduates, comprising of seven young Emiratis, will start their nuclear career at FANR.

During the year, the developees gained the fundamental knowledge necessary to understand the technical concepts applicable to nuclear engineering, radiation safety and nuclear regulation.

FANR’s flagship Developee Engineers Programme plays an indispensable role in building Emirati cadre who will shoulder an important responsibility in the sector. Today, we mark the culmination of efforts made by them during the year and they are ready and equipped to start their nuclear regulatory career at FANR,” said Shaima Al Mansoori, Director of Education and Training at the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation.

The programme for the developees is based on a modular approach with a mix of both technical and soft skills development as well as a rotation plan in FANR’s various operational departments  (such as nuclear safety, security, safeguard and radiation safety) to learn the various functions of the nuclear regulator.  The Developees also underwent four two-week job rotation modules and a study tour to France to visit their nuclear and radiation application facilities.

With the addition of the new developees, FANR now has a core of Emirati engineers and physicists who represent FANR’s sustained commitment to overseeing peaceful, safe and secure nuclear activities in the UAE.  It currently employs around 245 employees, of whom 66% are Emiratis.
Since 2016, 24 developpes graduated from the programme.  Developed in-house, FANR’s Developee Engineering programme is designed to provide fresh graduates with fundamental knowledge necessary to understand technical concepts applicable to nuclear energy and regulation. The goal of the programme focuses on equipping graduates with the skills needed to understand the day-to-day duties of the Operations Division. Currently, another batch of legal developee are enrolled at FANR to be trained in the nuclear law and prepare them for employment in the Legal Affairs department.
