May 21, 2020The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) held a webinar session to discuss the impact of Covid-19 on the nuclear energy sector and the need for innovation.
The session featured FANR’s Director General Christer Viktorsson; Deputy Director-General for Nuclear Safety and Security at the International Atomic Agency Juan Carlos Lentijo; Director-General of World Nuclear Association Agneta Rising; and President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission Rumina Velshi.
Speakers highlighted the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on nuclear regulators and operators as well as various measures taken to mitigate its impact to ensure business continuity to maintain the safety of the public, workers and environment. Speakers addressed the need for innovation in many of the functions conducted by the industry from organization management, inspections, licensing, emergency response preparedness and others to ensure business continuity during such pandemics.
